We have a couple of weekends off in August, so while we’re taking care of editing and tweaking all the images from our past portrait session and weddings (keep an eye on this space for three shoots this week!), we also decided to take a short break and head over to Lewisburg, West Virginia to take in the state fair there. While we love Virginia and the state fair here, it really just doesn’t compare–well worth the drive. In fact, while we were at a fountain refilling our water bottle, we saw a DC-based couple whose New Jersey wedding we shot in 2007, Meryl & Peter! It was so funny seeing them again, as we hadn’t seen them since their wedding. They were in town visiting with their parents and family friends who lived nearby, so it was nice catching up.

Beyond that, we took in a BMX bike show, a stunt car show, the vast midway with tons of rides, and of course more fair food than you can shake a soft-serve ice cream cone at. Here are a few of our favorite images from the afternoon.

This is Annie’s favorite of the shots Bill took. It’s simple composition really made us want to get on and ride!

This is Bill’s favorite of those Annie took. The serene mood set by the light and the Ferris wheel’s silhouettes really made it.

A view of the kids area of the fair. Note the acres and acres of parked cars in the background. Our time spent leaving the parking lot that evening was far from fleeting.

Annie had wanted to do a shot like this for months, but it’s been difficult finding a fair with cotton candy on a stick. Eureka!

This is how we ended the night. Snaking through the queue, stretching to the left, typically lasts 45-60 minutes for these big-as-your-head cinnamon rolls. They’re amazing. And only in West Virginia.
